With us you will find Danish courses that are tailored to meet your language needs and develop your language skills. You can choose between different times and ways to learn Danish, so that it suits you and your commitments in relation to work, studies and family.

Learn Danish during daytime, evening, Saturday or online

We offer free courses at all levels.

The courses take place during daytime, in the evening, on Saturdays or online, so you have the opportunity to learn Danish when it suits you.

Our courses will give you language skills and an understanding of Danish culture, which will help you in your communication with Danes. It strengthens you in your daily life and in your career in Denmark.

  • You learn Danish through interactive and dynamic teaching, where you practice conversation in groups or in pairs, through discussion and in role plays

  • You gain an in-depth understanding of the Danish language through instructions, exercises and individual feedback

  • You develop your skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing, while also learning about Danish culture and Danish society

  • You can hand in your written work digitally and get feedback on our digital learning platform. Here you can also access all teaching material, extra exercises, links and audio files, so you can improve your skills through self-studies at the same time.

  • We offer Danish courses at all levels and courses with different language goals. In order for you to participate in the right class, we need to know your level and your language goals before you start.

    We prioritize great flexibility, so you can start when you are ready. You therefore have an individual teaching plan. You will participate in a class with fellow students with similar level and goals, and the teacher ensures that you have a language community where you can inspire and help each other.

  • We offer Danish courses at many different times during the week.

  • Before you can start, you must speak to one of our student counsellors. The interview gives you a guarantee that you will learn Danish in a class that suits your level and your needs.

    If you have been in Denmark for less than 5 years, you can probably have your Danish tuition paid for by your local municipality. Read more here.

    If you already speak and understand Danish at a level that allows you to participate in a conversation in Danish, you can take part in our free courses where you can improve your reading, writing and spelling in Danish. The courses are called FVU Danish and FVU start. Read more here.

FVU Danish and FVU start

FVU Danish and FVU start are free courses for you who can already speak and understand Danish at a basic level, but who want to get better at reading and writing Danish.

At FVU start, you strengthen your vocabulary and your linguistic correctness. The course focuses on spoken and written Danish, which is relevant to you in your everyday life. In order to participate, you must be able to hold small conversations in Danish, and write small notes.

FVU Danish strengthens your vocabulary, your reading speed and improves your writing. You can participate in FVU Danish when you have passed FVU start or have a similar level.

  • Before you can start FVU, you must complete a short test that shows your level.

    For FVU start, the test consists of you talking to a supervisor and telling about yourself, about why you want to take FVU and what your plans are for the future. You must also read a text and write a text about yourself or a subject. We expect that you can conduct the entire conversation in Danish.

    For FVU Danish, the test consists of an electronic screening and a writing task on paper. The screening consists of three parts: A reading task, a task in word knowledge and a task in hearing the sounds of the letters.

    If you have participated in FVU within the past two years, you must speak to a supervisor who will assess whether you can start without being tested again.

  • FVU courses are divided into 5 levels; FVU start and steps 1-4.
    Each level has 40-80 lessons. You can finish each step with a state-guaranteed step test.

    A level 2 test can be used to apply for permanent residence in Denmark.
    A level 4 test can enable you to be admitted to a vocational education or to apply for Danish citizenship.

FVU mathematics and FVU digital

FVU mathematics and FVU digital are free courses for you want to learn mathematics or IT, and who already speak and understand everyday Danish.

Learn math you can use in everyday life

In FVU Mathematics, we work with how you use arithmetic and mathematics in your everyday life – at work, in education, and in your private life.

FVU Mathematics is for everyone. However, you must be over 25 years old, be able to speak, read, and understand Danish to a reasonable degree, and attend regularly.

The course is free, and new students are admitted on an ongoing basis.

  • Before you can start FVU mathematics, you need to take a test so that we can place you in the right class.

  • There are two levels in FVU mathematics, and you will start at the level that suits you. You can complete each level with a level test.

    Level test 2 may qualify you for admission to a vocational education, including SOSU (social and health care education).

Improve your skills in using mobile phone and computer

In FVU Digital, you become familiar with basic digital tools that you can use at work, in education, and in your private life.

FVU Digital is for everyone. However, you must be over 25 years old, be able to speak, read, and understand Danish to a reasonable degree, and attend regularly.

The course is free, and new students are admitted on an ongoing basis.

  • Before you can start FVU Digital, you need to take a test so that we can place you in the right class.

  • There are four levels in FVU digital, and you will start at the level that suits you. You can complete each level with a level test.

    Each level takes 20-30 hours. Level 1 is basic and designed for beginners.

Courses for international AU staff and accompanying partners

In cooperation with Aarhus University, we offer free Danish courses for international AU staff and accompanying partners.

We are specialized in teaching Danish as a second language to highly educated professionals. Our courses provide a high level of expertise and are tailored to accomodate the participants’ needs for flexibility and efficiency.

Our courses are held at Aarhus University or online. 

With our courses in the state-guaranteed Danish education, you achieve language skills and an understanding of Danish culture and society which opens up opportunities in your social and professional life and makes you feel more at home in Denmark.

We offer a variety of courses:

  • Danish Online Combi
    Danish Online Combi is for internationals in higher education. You will join a small class where you meet virtually with your teacher and fellow students at your level once a week. In addition, you follow a flexible self-study program with individual feedback from your teacher.

  • Day and afternoon courses exclusively for AU staff and their accompanying partners

    You will join a small class where you meet virtually with your teacher and fellow students at your level once a week.

    An introduction to the Danish language, gain indispensable knowledge about Danish culture and values, and get useful tips and tricks on what you can do to make you feel at home in Denmark.
    You get access to our unique and exclusive online platform for 3 months.

  • If you have not yet arrived in Denmark or do not hold a CPR number, you can still participate for a fee.

Please notice
You can take part in our courses for free (KickStart excluded) if you hold a Danish cpr.no and are eligible to have your Danish education paid by your muncipality. We will assist you in determining whether you are eligible for free education. Read more here.

If you meet the above requirements, you only need to pay a deposit of DKK 2,000, which is payable upon registration. You will have your deposit refunded, if you pass your module test within the specified timeframe. Read more here.

SOSU Danish

Do you dream of working in the health and social care sector?

With SOSU Danish, you take the first steps towards a health and social care education.

With SOSU Danish, you get

    We work with the specific words and phrases you need when working in the health and social care sector.

Medical Danish

Medical Danish is an especially intensive Danish program designed to meet your needs if you are a newly arrived physician or psychiatrist having a special arrangement to attend Danish lessons through your employer in Central Denmark Region.

In Medical Danish, we work with Danish skills that you need both for everyday situations in Denmark and the specialised purposes of performing your job as a physician or psychiatrist.

We build your vocabulary related to the body and diseases, practise communicative situations with patients, their family members and colleagues, and enhance your comprehension skills and ability to give precise instructions.

Moreover, we focus on workplace culture as an important aspect of functioning and thriving in your job as a physician or psychiatarist in Denmark.

The objective is to attain a level of language proficiency that will allow you to pass the Exam in Danish 3, obtaining the grades of 7/7/10 which are required to sit the medical exams and to apply for authorisation in Denmark.

Intensive Danish

Do you want intensive teaching and are you ready to spend 3 weeks full-time in June/July learning Danish?

With our “Summer Speed” course, you will complete your module in three weeks. 

With ‘Summer Speed’ you get:

  • Danish education, which is based on topics about Danish culture and society
  • Option to pass a module during the three weeks
  • Dynamic and experienced teachers who use pair and group work and who give ongoing feedback

To participate, you must: 

  • Be able to spend at least six hours every day for three weeks learning Danish
  • Be ready to complete the module and take a module test on the last day of the course

  • The course combines classroom teaching with self-study. This means that each day you will have lessons with your class at the school in Horsens, and you will also need to complete assignments and exercises at home.

Danish for dyslexics

It might be difficult to learn Danish if you are a dyslexic.

We offer supplementary courses for dyslexia to all students with dyslexia who can speak and understand some Danish.

We offer free tuition for adult dyslexics.

The teaching takes place in small groups with individually planned courses that suit you and your goals.

Teams are set up as needed day, evening and Saturday, and there are 5-6 participants in each team.

  • In order for you to participate in the lessons, you must have an interview and test with a supervisor who assesses whether dyslexia education is the right offer for you.
